FC7 x86_64 and ATI Drivers

I am trying to install the ATI drivers for a Radeon 9200 card on FC7 x86_64 and it is failing because it can not determine the version of X that is running. Has anyone seen this? It has I can force a version, but I am not sure which one to use.

No, but have you read the "sticky" in the Fedora forum re the library problems caused by using the vendor-supplied installation scripts? You might be better off using one of, for example, the pre-compiled drivers available from the livna repository.

Does the livna and freshrpms repositories play with each nicely?

No. I've found it better to have only one active at a time. I believe that freshrpms uses DKMS so your kernel modules are automatically recompiled as needed whilst livna just makes a new rpm available.

Thus freshrpms can be more more responsive but less flexible. That's because dkms, once the service is started, will attempt to install all the modules mentioned in it's config file, even if that's not desirable or, as I've had occasion to find out, the modules installed conflict with each other and prevent your system from working as expected.

On the other hand, if you use livna, you should install the fedorakmod yum plug-in so the livna kernel modules will be kept in sync with kernel changes. Until the kmod kernel system is removed from the Fedora distributions. (Last I saw, the decision to remove it had been made, but not scheduled.)

Turns out a downloaded a super old version of the ATI drivers for some reason.... The latest version installs fine.
