FC6 Tahoma font renders as empty squares

Hello.

So I'm trying out FC6 and so I wanted to get nice font rendering. To this end I built the freetype rpm package from source setting the bytecode_interpreter to '0' instead of the default '1'.

I then proceeded to install the msttcorefonts.

All went well except that now the Tahoma font (which I want to use) renders as just a bunch of empty squares.

I've tried replacing the font file from my windows partition but that didn't work. The bold Tahoma style works fine but I prefer the "regular" style. This problem only affects applications from gnome. If I chose the Tahoma font from within Open Office or Firefox it renders correctly.

If I log in as root the Tahoma font renders correctly. This suggests to me that it's an issue with my gnome session default parameters(?) If I delete my default gnome configuration files will they be recreated?(And thus fixing the problem?).

Can anyone suggest how to fix this?

I'm running FC6 with all updates and my default desktop is Gnome.
All suggestions/advice are welcome.

Thanks

Why don't you try? Simply rename your config files to *.old and restart gnome. Should it crash, re-rename the files...

Sorry, no other idea.

Hello.

So this is how I "fixed" it.
This really isn't a repair so much as a work around.

I'll just type the commands I used:
As root:
Code:
mkdir /opt/$USER.temp
mv -r /home/$USER/important_data /opt/$USER.temp
mv -r /home/$USER/.ssh /opt/$USER.temp
mv -r /home/$USER/.thunderbird /opt/$USER.temp
mv -r /home/$USER/.mozilla /opt/$USER.temp
Then, using the FC6 GUI I removed the user's account (including home directory).

Then I recreated the deleted account and transferred the data back from /opt/$USER.temp

When I logged in again, Tahoma was appearing correctly.

Don't know what the cause was but at least its been fixed.
