FC6 problem and running out of hairs to pull

First I could not login using the gui login screen i was getting text login and to go to the
desktop I had to issue this command "startx"
everything looks good all my mp3 players work fine using mplayer and life with linux was rolling.... but I couldn't get this out of my mind; why I could not get the login gui screen to work??
so I login as a root and edit the etc/inittab
I had this line id:3:initdefault: changed it to this id:5:initdefault: rebooted my machine and woooola I got the gui login screen working..... I thought that I was rolling once again and wanted to play some mp3 to go with my celebration right!!!!!!!!

so I fired up mplayer and OMG mplayer got me an error then check sound card nooo sound, how
can this be, sound was working flawless before I made the change....

so here is the error message guys

"AO-ESD esd_open_sound failed: broken pipe"

if I change my setting on the etc/inittab to the way I had it before then everything works

please fellows help the brother out!!!!!!!!!

You need to stress a bit here. What did not work, the update or your problem?

Hey, Have you tried to use another open sound system like ALSA or OSS? and btw you can update the total system by just running:
Code:

#yum update -y
