First let me say that I'm so sorry to even have to post this but, This is my first linux install and I want to try software RAID 1. I've managed to figure out that it has something to do with the disc druid during install but that's about as far as I've gotten. The way I figure it, I'm just not searching for the right terms so I'm hoping someone can help me out by pointing me to a tutorial on how to setup RAID1 during installation (and possibly learn the linux partitioning system better) so I can get started on this. I appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks!!
P.S. this is simple two drive mirroring so that if one fails the other takes over.
Essentially, you create identical partitions on both hard disks using disk druid, set the partition type to software raid, then your create meta devices which hold the usual ext3, etc filesystems, which are mounted at boot.
Super! Thank you! Now, uh, where can I find out more about these mystical meta devices which hold the usual ext3, etc filesystems, which are mounted at boot and their mysterious ways? (I think that would help a lot. I'm still trying to figure out what LVM is.)
