FC5 not booting sometimes. Weird

hello all,

Installed fc5 via network install as it didn't recognise the cd drive I have. On first install it loads up fine and after entering my username/pass the Gnome interface comes up.

Then when I restart it goes to the services booting screen where it loads the eth, print services etc etc but after it loads all the services IT JUST STOPS. Sometimes my monitor doesn't get any signal and sometimes there is a signal but screen is completely blank. Basically I can't get to the login screen.

I restart the computer again and it doesn't come up. I restart it again and then it comes up. Restart again and it doesnt come up and so on. It's totally random!!!

Any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem?

cheers!

Maybe someone can help if you provide detail info about your hardware.

Have you tried updating your kernel? 2157 is currently the latest

I'm a bit of a linux newbie. What's the easiest way of updating the kernel? Can it be done via Yum?

Thanks guys. I've used Yum to update all my software on the server using

Yum -y update yum
and then
yum - y update

Took a while but everything is working fine now. And yes my kernel is also updated to latest.

cheers!

Don't neglect to read the "sticky" at the top of the forum re Radeon (and nVidia) driver installation.

Also, the "most recent" kernel released is, I believe, 1.2174. Try yum upgrade instead of update.
