FC5: Flashing window status icons in gnome panel
I just upgraded from FC4 to FC5 and all went reasonably well except there's what appears to be a new feature (gnome only?) that's driving me bonkers and I haven't been able to figure out how to disable it.
When an application other than the one with the focus has some sort of status change a window "icon" entry is placed in the gnome panel in the workspace I'm in and it flashes until I either click on it or otherwise go to the workspace for the window and give it focus. This behavior is like a throbbing headache and is quite disruptive for something like gaim that has constant status changes with buddy's coming and going. Note that this behavior is not isolated to gaim - it's just the most obvious. Any ideas how I can alter this behavior (disabling is preferred). TIA, Dave |
System->Preferences->Sound
Go to the 'System Beep' tab, and uncheck the box labeled 'Visual system beep'. Hope this helps! :) |
Thanks for the info, that's good to know as I wasn't aware that was there. Unfortunately the 'Visual system beep' was already unchecked so that's not the problem. Just to be sure though I checked it, saved, and unchecked it again. All to no avail. :(
Any other suggestions? |
Sorry, no ideas. You *could* switch over to KDE if it's that annoying (besides, KDE 3.5, which comes with FC5, has some amazing eye candy, including semi-transparent windows and window/menu shadows ;) ).
