FC5 boot slowly now (not before)
I have been using FC5 for some time, but recently after an upgrade with Yum it seemed to freeze at the Fedora splash screen for a long time. The mouse would move on screen, but nothing else. There is occasional disk activity. Eventually the system opens for me as user (auto logon) and then opens a previously saved screen layout which includes Open Office and a couple of terminals. This is an old desktop config despite the fact that it asks me if I want to save desktop on every exit! (and sometimes I say yes, but the saved config that comes up next boot reverts to this earlier configuration.) It takes about 4-5 minutes to open to the desktop. The system then works normally.
It is not a networking issue. Can anyone suggest what might be happening and what config setting(s) - probably to do with Gnome that might be the problem? Many thanks |
