yup, had the same problems installing from the CDs, Fedora would reboot on me after i enter the root password whether i tried anaconda or the text install.

what i did was copy the 5 CD iso images to my 2nd HD (i didn't bother to download the dvd image, since i checked the hash of my files and they were all correct), copy also the /fedora directory of the first CD (just in case it needed to read the tree structure) then at the boot prompt (boot at the start of installation, i typed in

linux askmethod

so that it would ask me where to find the install images. i just pointed it to my 2nd HD and all worked well.

i think there's something wrong with the xml file/s, somebody ought to check that out. this is the first time i installed any flavor of linux, i hope my difficulties on this installation is not a sign of things to come.

I install fedora5, and I meet same problem ("Unable to read package metadata") after input password with you.
I reading, but I don't perfect known.

if I copy 5 CD iso images to E, and copy copy also the /fedora directory of the first CD to E root,
Now E:\
FC-5-i386-disc1.iso
FC-5-i386-disc2.iso
FC-5-i386-disc3.iso
FC-5-i386-disc4.iso
FC-5-i386-rescuecd.iso
repodata

but still "Unable to read package metadata" , where am I error?
