FC4 - PPC - yaboot & Kernel issues
I was given a G3 and was hoping to run a linux server with Fedora 4. I booted from disc 1 and did an http install. Install went fine, rebooted and nothing ( Mac question mark folder ). So I did a bunch of searching and found a howto for PPC and Fedora on penguinppc.org under distributions select special notes for Fedora. (sorry, can't post URL's)
This still does not help. yabootconfig runs fine. Here is my Hard drive setup:
/dev/hda1: Apple_bootstrap ( created using disk druid )
/dev/hda2: root
/dev/hda3: swap
I have never messed with a Mac until I got this 1 and don't like the Open Firmware vs. BIOS on PC's. I have tried to load yaboot from O.F. but it just locks up. When I use the cd to get a "boot:" prompt, I am able to start-up fedora but halts before finishing. Using the default kernel I get a message about mounting ext3 as ext2, and then "unable to open initial console". a websearch says that I need to use an initrd image for this, Tried that but still no.
Also I'm not sure if my O.F. paths are correct. Under Rescue 'ofpath' starts out like '/pci@80000000' but booting fedora from HD alias which is different.
AHHH!
I am going out of my mind.
Please Help!
