FC4 install hang, kernel panic

I'm trying to install FC4 from CD iso files, all is good until the system attempts to install the first package. (I can format, write the install image and do the RPM preparation.)

In the gui install mode, the system locks (no mouse movement even) with no message or any indication of any problem.

I attempted the console mode of install and still lock up with the following error:
Code:
Kernel panic - not syncing: drivers/ide/pci/piix.c:232: spin_lock(drivers/ide/ide.c:c03de668) already locked by drivers/ide/ide-iops.c/1235. (Not tainted)
I've also tried booting passing nodma to the kernel.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

[EDIT: got the exact message now!]

Dude, FC3 and 4 did the same thing to me. The easy fix is to use the linux text option. It runs the installer in a ncurses type mode. My FC4 looks and works great.

Yeah, I tried that, it was the only way I could get the error message when my system locked. In GUI install, my system just locks up with no indication of any problem (well, aside from the mouse pointer not moving and nothing else happening either! :-)

From what I can tell, it's possibly a problem with kernels newer than 2.6.9
