FC4 hangs after starting all processes

Hi,
I have always wanted to upgrade my FC3 to FC4, but was sceptical as i am kind of an amateur in linux. Today i tried to upgrade it after upgrading my yum and then updating the kernel and using an rpm from an FC4 mirror. But on rebooting i did not find FC4 nor the original FC3 startup.
I obtained the FC4 discs(4 CD's) and chose the upgrad to FC4 option. After 3 hours and no errors, it asked me to reboot. The system started all the processes successfully except nfs and iiimf server(perhaps the language server) which failed. Finally after webmin started OK, the system got hung.
This is the process repeating everytime i boot the computer. I used the installation CD's to "reupgrade" but it hangs after starting all the processes.
Anyone suggestions as to why FC4 hangs after starting all processes? i have some important data on the harddisk, so i cannot format it.

if you need to save your data first.. i would it with a second hard disk which has a working copy of linux on it.

then tackle your issue with fed4.

good luck.

FC4 hangup

i solved the problem of taking a backup. Now coming to FC4 what i guess is that the GUI is stuck somewhere. I can log onto my system through ssh. also during bootup i entered "single" and logged as root at the command prompt. How do i know the problem when all the processes except nfs & iiimf server have started ok!

i would just do a fresh install, & copy my /home /root/ over.

you can spend hours or days trying to fix a problem that someone at fed created.. and still not fix it.

although the issue doesnt'really sound tooo large, .. and if you insist on finding the cause of this bug, will try to help you reslove this.. and hopefully someone else with a similar problem will read this also.

i'd start with taking webmin out... it's possible there is a module that is not working corectly, and is therebye freezing your sys.

also take out nfs and iiimf.

do a 'purge' of these programs so they are removed from all references.

we also need to find out what comes after webmin on the bootup process.. cause maybe that is what is actually causing the spassim, and not webmin.
