FC3-x86_64 Gotchas?

Hi all,
After having successfully run FC2 on my PIII, I will be getting a new AMD64 based machine. Any particular problems that I need to be aware of? Precautions to be taken? What about nforce boards? Any problems there?

Thanks.

I haven't run into any issues. The one thing you'll have to worry about is compatability issues. I still haven't been able to get flash working on this machine and for a time I had XMMS-mp3 running but I haven't been able to find the one that worked after reinstalling fedora (not because of a bug though). Installing java was difficult until I realized that there is no support for 1.4.2 in the 64 bit arch. But there is a 1.5.0 java SDK which is made just for AMD 64s running linux.

Wait a second. There is a 1.4.2 java for AMD64...

[URL=ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/linux/devel/lang/java/blackdown.org/JDK-1.4.2/amd64/01/[/URL]

It works just fine on my machine...

Fedora core 3 has libraries for both 32, and 64 bit systems due to the fact that the toolchain is in a sense, crosscompiled, or to be more precise, you should have both a 32bit and a 64 bit toolchain, this should enable you to run both 32 and 64bit binaries, as well as compile from source, if you did not install the compatibility, I would recomend doing so, as a , it is very very useful, and also, cross compiling your own, is a pain, there are certain version issues with both gcc and glibc that make cross compilation of the final libraries difficult at best..

Best of Luck,

FC3 doesn't like the sli motherboards using PCIe (asus anyways) coupled with the 6600 gt video (Asus again) cards.

Installation is ok, however unless it is a text install, the screen gets corrupted and is unreadable.

If anyone knows how to get round this problem, I'd be very interested to know how in an easy method (linux noob you see )
