FC3 NVIDIA driver prob
I followed several guides and How-to's trying to get my NVIDIA drivers working, including this one linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=259917&highlight=nvidia+fedora[/url]
I am able to follow and complete every step in this guide and others, but when I edit my xorg.conf file and try to start Xserver again, I get a black/stand-by screen. Any suggestions? in my xorg log this is what's found : 1. (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (NVIDIA X driver not found) 2. Symbol __glXgetActiveScreen from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! Symbol __glXgetActiveScreen from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! |
Can you post the contents of your entire /etc/X11/xorg.conf file please.

I hope you understand that this is not my current xorg.conf file, as that would result in me in not being able to startx. My current xorg.conf has the line Load "dri" under section module, and Driver "nv" under section device.
xorg.conf # XFree86 4 configuration created by pyxf86config Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" # RgbPath is the location of the RGB database. Note, this is the name of the # file minus the extension (like ".txt" or ".db"). There is normally # no need to change the default. # Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb" FontPath "unix/:7100" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" Load "fbdevhw" Load "glx" Load "record" Load "freetype" Load "type1" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # Specify which keyboard LEDs can be user-controlled (eg, with xset(1)) # Option "Xleds" "1 2 3" # To disable the XKEYBOARD extension, uncomment XkbDisable. # Option "XkbDisable" # To customise the XKB settings to suit your keyboard, modify the # lines below (which are the defaults). That xorg.conf looks fine, and I looked the instructions you linked, they definately will work. What video card and monitor do you have?
|
hey,
I have an NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4600 and a LG Flatron 915+ (unrecognized by FC3 ) |
Is this your monitor?
http://www.lge.com/catalog/prodmodel...&model=NOTHING If so, your horizontal and vertical refresh rates and recommended resolution are incorrect in xorg.conf. Recommended resolution is 1280x1024 @ 85Hz Horizontal refresh rate should be 30-98kHz Vertical refresh rate should be 50-160Hz You currently have it set for - ModelName "Monitor 1024x768" HorizSync 31.5 - 57.0 VertRefresh 50.0 - 70.0 In addition, these errors confuse me; Symbol __glXgetActiveScreen from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! Symbol __glXgetActiveScreen from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! You are told to disable DRI in xorg.conf as part of the nvidia driver install, so if you did that why are you getting dri lib errors? I'm betting your major problem is the incorrect refresh rates set. |
I had a similar problem but with different hardware (FC3, Geforce FX 6800LE and an Iiyama monitor).
It turned out the correct monitor was not defined in the display settings (system-config-display) which prevented me from setting the proper addressability. I also got the Symbol __glXgetActiveScreen from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! Symbol __glXgetActiveScreen from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved! error in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I thought I had removed 'Load "dri"' from my xorg.conf, but when I checked, it was still there for some reason. I removed it, and the unresolved error above went away. Thanks for the pointer, Harryc! :o) Now I just need to figure out how to configure my Audigy 2 card... :o/ |
