FC3 : how to change permission of directories where filesystems are mounted ?
I have a dual boot system with Windows XP and FC3 . I mounted my windows partition by including this line in /etc/fstab :
/dev/hda5 /DWin ntfs defaults 0 0
where DWin is a directory i created in '/' with initial permission drwxr-xr-x
But after i rebooted and Windows partition was mounted , the permission of DWin changed to dr-x------
I tried changing its permission using chmod , but failed as its read-only now .
Now i can access the data in Windows partition from root but not from any user login.
Plz tell me how to change its permission back to 755.
Linux does not officially support writing to NTFS partitions. (can be done but not recommended for newbies)
So the best you can do is to mount it read only
try this in your fstab
/dev/hda5 /DWin ntfs users,umask=000,ro 0 0
(note: you could have searched previous postings and would have found the same solution)
