It drops to the graphical login screen. I'm using KDE, althought I did install gnome to try it out a while ago. This is the first and only time its happened.

The funny thing is, just before it dropped, another screen flashed up momentarily which seemed to look like a gnome session (the background at least was the one I had in gnome anyway).

with the default installation on an amd duron 1200 + gigabyte board (?) i have the phenomenon that logout from KDE as root everything is ok, but as a user the screen turns black and nothing happens.no chance to do anything. network is also down.

havenīt tried if this prob exists with the current X11-updates.

but to your problem...sorry..no idea

It looks like an X crash... but I can't tell... Perhaps your log files (/var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg*) tell more?
