FC3 boot hang: Read-only file system error?

Ever since I installed Debian (I have since deleted the partitions), Fedora Core 3 hasn't worked. It hangs at boot, right after Swap is successfully enabled. Before it hangs, I get a number of messages that say operations can't be completed because the regular FC3 filesystem is a "Read-only file system." Strangely, the Debian install seems to have affected only the FC3 partition(s), since an install of gentoo on the same drive boots right up. I've googled for this, done a search on the forum, and can't seem to find guidance on this. Have any of you encountered a similar problem?

Thanks.
Batard.

Did you check if you deleted any Fedora partitions by mistake?

i had this problem also... I think the issue is with sendmail and resolving hostnames, not with the enabling swap space as I originally thought (this is just the last operation that has completed successfully & displayed)

what I did to fix this problem was to edit my /etc/hosts file and make sure the line for 127.0.0.1 was like this...

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost mymachinename

it seemed that somehow the word 'localhost' had been shortened to 'localho', I think as a result of some yum updating. I also put my machine name in this line just incase... and now it all works perfectly again

i hope this helps,

norpel
