FC2 Installer reboots on system with Via C3 CPU
I have a Via CPU in my system, and the FC2 installer CD reboots as soon as it starts to load the kernel. I've read a few other reports on the fedora-list that its happening to all the Via CPUs, too.
Does anyone know a workaround? Are there any boot parameters to pass to the kernel to get it to load? Unfortunately, I'm think I'm SOL on FC2! Argh! Between this and the MBR/GRUB/parted bug, I'm getting really frustrated. I found this bug in bugzilla: http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/....cgi?id=120685 It looks like it appeared in Test1, but didn't show up again until Final. For the curious: Code:
[root@localhost root]# cat /proc/cpuinfo |
Via C3 M10000 affected as well....
I have the same issue on a Via V3 Nehemiah. Unfortunately, I too have not yet found a work around. I am looking to upgrade via yum at this time.
If I find any other solution, I'll post it. |
Make that a C3 Nehemiah.

Follow the bottom of the bug listing on Buzilla that I posted in my first post.
There's a patched kernel and an iso to boot from. There's a few hoops about booting from the patched CD, swapping in the FC2 CDs, and updating the kernel before you reboot; but I did it and it works--FC2 is now running on my Via C3 system! |
I did manage to upgrade via yum, however, once I installed the 2.6 kernel. my logical volumes refused to boot. Ouch.
This seems to be an issue with moving from lvm1 to lvm2. I've found a few people with the same problem, however, no fixes. Doh! I can still boot with FC1 kernels, however, this is not satisfactory. I'll give your fix a try on the weekend. Thanks! |
