FATAL: Module usbcore not found

Hi. I have a new FC2 installation on a Hi-Grade (Twinview) laptop. Generally it seems to work fine, except that USB stuff doesn't work.

I have no /proc/usb. If I /sbin/lsmod there are no usb modules. If I try to /sbin/modprobe usbcore, then I get the following error message:

# /sbin/modprobe usbcore
FATAL: usbcore not found
#

I am running the standard kernel that came with FC2:

# uname -r
2.6.5-1.358
#

Hence surely usbcore is compiled as either part of that kernel, or as a module.

Any hints as to what might fix this?

Cheers,

Ross-c

I find it hard to imagine that FC2 had any problems with USB... and so i'd be left thinking that you've either deleted usbcore.ko or it's part of the kernel (yeah... let's hope it's that one...) and so you should just need to load the higher modules onto your system. does "dmesg | grep usb" show that usbcore is in the kernel?
