Fail to start FC6

Hi folks,

FC6

On booting it displayed;
/var: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in shot read while reading block 1840
/var: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short reading journal super block
fsck.ext3: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while clearing ext3 jounal for var [Fail]

Login in root trying to fix it as follow withoug result;

# fsck /dev/hda6
....
.....
fsck.ext3: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while clearing ext3 jounal for var

/boot /dev/hda1
/ /dev/hda2
swap /dev/hda3
/home /dev/hda5
/var /dev/hda6

Above info in from my recollection. How to check them? Unable to run "fdisk -l" without bootup PC

TIA

The fc6 install dvd (or first install cd) is a rescue cd. Boot from it, and type "linux rescue" at the boot: prompt. You can run fdisk from the shell.
