F11 does not boot up after install - grub prompt

I've been trying to install Fedora 11 64 bit on my PC which has an AMD Athlon (tm) 64 processor 3200+. I tried installing it without any changes to the file system setup, ie, I left the EXT4, EXT3 and LVM just as the installer set it up. When the installation is complete and I reboot I get: grub>. I had exactly the same result installing the 32 bit version of F11.
I tried removing LVM and changed EXT4 to EXT3, like in the older versions but still get the same result. I get the impression that something is wrong with grub, but what ?
I will really appreciate any help I can get.

since you did not indicate in your post, are we safe in assuming this is a brand new computer with one hard drive and no other operating system? How/where did you install Grub, mbr, root partition?

F11 does not boot up after install - grub prompt

Hi Yancek.
Thanks for your reply.
It's not a new machine but when I install F11 there is only one hard drive connected, an IDE drive.
At the time of my post I had only installed Grub in the mbr, but I've just tried installing Grub in the root partition and get the same result.

Something I find strange is that I had F10 installed on the same disk, before I got the F11 DVD. When I originally installed F10 I didn't have any problem. Tonight I tried installing F10 on the same disk and I got the same grub> prompt that I've been getting with F11.

With every install attempt I've been taking the option of replacing the existing linux installation.

Hi Yancek.
I found the solution to the problem !
My PC has two IDE ports. Late last night I noticed that the DVD ROM was on the primary IDE port and the hard disk on the secondary port.
This evening I swopped the two units, re-installed F11 and rebooted. It works beautifully !
