error when using yum

I am relatively new to linux so please bear with me.

I've been using Fedora Core 2 for the past 4 months or so and I have been keeping it up to date with yum.

Recently I upgraded to Core 3 (fresh install) and am trying to get yum to work. I've replaced my yum.conf file with a sample one from a web site.

When I run (as root) yum update I get this error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/yum", line 8, in ?
yummain.main(sys.argv[1:])
File "/usr/share/yum-cli/yummain.py", line 68, in main
result, resultmsgs = base.doCommands()
File "/usr/share/yum-cli/cli.py", line 381, in doCommands
return self.updatePkgs()
File "/usr/share/yum-cli/cli.py", line 766, in updatePkgs
self.doRepoSetup()
File "/usr/share/yum-cli/cli.py", line 78, in doRepoSetup
self.doSackSetup()
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 93, in doSackSetup
self.repos.populateSack()
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/yum/repos.py", line 203, in populateSack
dobj = repo.cacheHandler.getPrimary(xml, csum)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/yum/mdcache.py", line 103, in getPrimary
return self._getGeneric('metadata', location, checksum)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/yum/mdcache.py", line 90, in _getGeneric
databank = self._unpickle(piklfile)
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/yum/mdcache.py", line 62, in _unpickle
obj = cPickle.load(infh)
EOFError

What could be causing this and how would I go about fixing it? I can post my yum.conf file if needed.

Thanks for any and all help.

Chris

You will want to post your yum.conf
Are you aware that Core 3 uses a slightly different format
for configuring yum? The base repositories are located in
/etc/yum.conf.d in seperate text files, so you won't want
them repeated in the yum.conf.

EDIT: Thank you Engmar. I've been googling all day today and I finally figured out how to fix the problem. You were right about me having my repositories repeated. I was trying to set up my yum.conf file like I did under Fedora Core 2.

Thanks again for all the help. The problem is fixed.

Chris
