[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]

I get the following error message when I try to login to Gnome. Everything was working fine until I disconnected my laptop from my broadband connection so I could print something off as my printer is in another room. I booted the laptop as localhost and that was fine too but after connecting back up to the broadband I now get this message:


Could not look up internet address for XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly.
It may be possible to correct the problem by adding
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX to the file /etc/hosts.

The XXXX's are my machine name on broadband and the provider. I copied and pasted the machine name into /etc/hosts but did not include the IP address. Surely I don't have to include this as well, if I did then would this not mean that everytime I disconnect it from the broadband I would need to do this again and again.

Any help would be appreciated. Incidentally the error message does ask me if I want to try again or log in anyway. If I login anyway all still appears okay except that Firestarter then won't work and shuts down.
