Error Message gcc: Command not found

There I am: freshly installed FC2.
Now I want to compile some program and I get an error-message that says:

"gcc: Command not found".

To find out what is wrong I enter "slocate gcc". I see lots of gcc-files and -directories:

It seems that everything is there, but the program won't compile

What do I miss?

Kind regards,

No you don't. From what I can see, you've only got gcc libs installed. I don't use FC (or any other rpm-based distro) but I'm positive you can find a package called "gcc-something-something.rpm" in the CD's.

gcc should be in the /bin directory. As wpyh says, you'll find a series of files called gcc34*.rpm in the second and third FC2 installation CDs. Install those or alternatively, go to one of the download mirrors, and install from the latest gcc* rpms.
