Angry Dual boot machine Grub doesn't install

I have one (1) sata disk, and i have installed Windows XP. I tried to install Fedora 2 in another partition, but allthough the installation ended succussefully, the grub did not installed and it boots just in Windows. I tried linux rescue by forcing grub-install /dev/hde but nothing happens. Grub just doen't go to the MBR. What's wrong?

If you're planning to dual boot Fedora core 2 and WIn XP
you really should read this article

http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/fc2.shtml

There is an issue with the installer that can mess up the parition table geometry
and make XP unbootable. I came across the article after doing this to my machine.

It also has a good list of steps for manually installing grub.

marios_auth: You may have already fixed your problem by now, but is it as simple as addressing the wrong device? SATA drives are usually configured in FC as SCSI devices, not as IDE devices. So, instead of running “grub-install /dev/hde”, try something like “grub-install /dev/sda”.

I have deliberately not tried to help as I believe that until FC2 and SUSE 9.1 users need to fix their drive geometries caused by their partitioning tools they will blame grub on reboot.

And its better they do a clean install with the fixes as per below rather than try to repair.

so I plead he reads the 3 links for fc and suse errors here

feel free to ignore my posts, most people do heh heh
