Welcome to LQ.

Lots of things depend on python2.6. Not only yum.
All 'system-config*' admin tools depend on python2.6.
But how about building from source ?
Perfect with python-2.6 on Fedora 11.
Server & Client will build in a sec.

yum install python-lxml python-psycopg2 pychart pydot \
python-reportlab pytz python-setuptools
( Most of the above is required for runtime too.)

Server :
http://www.openerp.com/download/stab...-5.0.10.tar.gz
> openerp-server_5.0.10.orig.tar.gz
cd openerp-server_5.0.10/
su
python setup.py install
exit

Client :
http://www.openerp.com/download/stab...-5.0.10.tar.gz
> openerp-client-5.0.10.tar.gz

cp openerp-server-5.0.10/bin/__init__.py openerp-client-5.0.10/bin/
cd openerp-client-5.0.10/
su
python setup.py install

Web Client
http://www.openerp.com/download/stab...-5.0.10.tar.gz
> openerp-web-5.0.10.tar.gz
cp openerp-server-5.0.10/bin/__init__.py openerp-web-5.0.10/locales/
cd openerp-web-5.0.10/
su
python setup.py install
... Takes some time, and lots of warnings will appear.
...

you do not downgrade it on fedora
BUT

you can install 2.5 along side 2.6 .
Just take the necessary precautions to keep 2.5 out of the system path
then build your program with a pointer to python 2.5

or just rebuild it for 2.6

One more thing is required on Fedora 11, to build with python-2.6:
" python-mx-DateTime " → → # yum install mx-devel

Commands to start openerp :
1) openerp-server ( And keep the terminal window open.)
2) New terminal session : openerp-client
..... And a nice GUI will open.
.....
