dovecot failed to start

I am having problems with my webmail Server. I cannot open my webmail login page. It gives me an error that says that page cannot be found.

h_t_t_p://<www_mydomain_com>/webmail/

Reading a little about it I found that the service dovecot is needed for that purpose.

I cannot start the dovecot service. I have disable SELinux at install.

I tried to start dovecot manually by using

# /etc/init.d/dovecot start

With this option I get the following error message:

Starting Dovecot Imap: [FAILED]

Any ideas on what else I should try.
