I try to use the stupid thing to install the packages I need to install the NVidia driver, after recompiling the kernel to include 8K Stacks not 4K like it defaults to...does anyone else have this much trouble with stuff that should just work? I have no trouble doing the extra configuration, I like the stability...but that stupid X based package manager just DOESNT WORK. It didnt in FC1 either.

Specifically, I am trying to install the developers tools, and when it asks for the CD with the packages on it (CD 2) it tells me it cant find the disk. Any suggestions?

no suggestions here, just it happened to me also. after the kernel compile i have to do rpm --rebuilddb, and even after that add remove package program are confused which cd the package you are going to install is located. wow

I had the same problem with the "Add/Remove Programs" recognising CD's

Sometimes it works okay...other times it says it needs disk 'x'...when the disk is in the cd-rom !!! Strangely enough it sometimes works after a re-boot - I guess something is not being unloaded/refreshed but I don't know what. Re-starting X (ctrl-alt-backspace) doesn't make any difference.

It's possible to copy the files from the CD, and install manually with RPM.

"Synaptic" seems to work quite well...to be honest I still get confused with RPM / yum etc.

When it doesn't recognize the disk, be patient and wait some time before hitting OK.
