"Do you really want to install this catalog?"
 

When I try to browse to my user's home folder, I instead get a popup message,
"Do you really want to install this catalog?"
There's no mention of which catalog it refers to;
There's a help button, which is helpful for installation package info;
There's a YES button, which sets off a failed installation attempt;
And a cancel button, which makes the popup go away again. Which is handy.
I can cd to by directory via command line. I have deleted the packages I found there.
Still no GUI directory access.

Wow, that's a weird one... Never heard of that before.

Open a terminal, then type "nautilus" and once the file manager comes up, navigate to your home folder and see if you get any errors or warnings in the terminal.

Have you tried creating another user to see if the same problem occurs with that user? This may be user related. It doesn't happen that often anymore, but there have been cases where user related Gnome settings/configuration/profile have become corrupt. If this ends up being the problem there are some directories and files you can remove. After removal the affected user can login and Gnome will recreate the files.

Which reminds me, if it is that, remove .gnome* in your home directory from a terminal (Not within gnome or kde) and then log in and see if it persists.

Thanks for those fixes. I have been on the road with little time but will get around to trying your advice.
In the meantime, I have found that I can access my home files via the Desktop folder instead of the Panel>Places>Home Folder I've always used.
Maybe the problem will spread to other functions. But so far, "if it ain't broken..."

Just to verify, it doesn't work when you go to places, corret? If so, you might have a glitch within your mimetypes.

You got it: Menu Places>Home Folder produces the error.

Post the output of your ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file.

No problem. Lately a lot of people have been having issues with mimetypes.

Sorry about long absence. This problem has survived the upgrade to Fedora 15. It does not occur with the other user I have created. With Gnome 3, there is no desktop Home folder (except in Classic mode) so the message, "Do you want to install this catalog" has once again become a hindrance.
