do i have to activate/register to get updates?
ive been trying to update fedora 4 and cant do it! keep getting error about dependencies. do i have to activate with redhat.com to get the updates? im trying to install limwire pro as an RPM and it keeps saying that it needs the file "j2re" before it can install. im assuming that it cant find that file because i havent updated yet! WHAT IS THE DEAL!

1) You need to install JRE before you install Limewire. Download the JRE binary from sun.com, and run it from a terminal. You will need to add some lines to ~/.bashrc to add Java to your PATH. See the instructions Here for detailed instructions (Or search the forums).
2) To update FC4, use the up2date utility. You will need to register with redhat for this to work. Is this a problem?

It should be free to register with redhat.
Before you update, you need to set up yum. There should be a howto for yum somewhere, or try "man yum".
Once yum is set up, you can install programs using yum, and it will take care of dependencies for you. It will also upgrade the packages on your computer automatically.
updating software is absolutely free with linux (fedora included), and there is absolutely no need to register anywhere to get them. to update your system, you can use the yum command on the command line. for guide to set up/use yum, check out http://www.fedorafaq.org/#getsoftware
