Dell D810 DMA DVD Problem

Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude D810 laptop. I am runing Fedora Core 5, kernel 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5. My DVD playback is choppy and unwatchable. I have read that this is because DMA support is not enabled for my DVD drive. When I type "hdparm -d1 /dev/hdc" I get this result
"
/dev/hdc:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
"
I am wondering how do I enable DMA for my SATA DVD drive. I kinda new to linux so a step by step solution would be great if thats possible.

Thanks
