copy speed

What is a normal copy speed from a dvd cd/rw combo drive to the hard drive? The hard drive and the combo drive are on seperate channels and it takes forever to copy 4 or 5 gigs to the hard drive. It copies at around 30 kb and takes 12 hours or more. Is this a normal copy speed or am I missing some major tweeks?

Thanks Greg

It really all depends on the speed of your dvd drive, as your hard drive will be faster than the dvd drive, etc. I would say 5 gigs or so and 12 hours is a bit long it would seem to me. I can move more than that in a matter of minutes across my network from one machine to the other..

Yep, this is way to slow, I'm trying to find the problem still. Just has to be a config somewhere that I'm missing...Just going to take time to find is all.

Still havn't figured this out, on win98se it takes around 8 hours to copy a dvd to my hard drive at 4x but on fedora it takes about 6 hours more....the dvd is about 4.5 gigs of data ( 3 dvd's to copy) for a auto repair database at my shop. I put it on a hard drive to serve it through the shop because the access is faster off hard drive over dvd drive...

I'm out of things to try, and suggestions?

Greg
