don't know about your screen blanking problem, does your bootloader know about the new kernel/initrd? i seem to remember having to type some cmd when using lilo so it'll update, that was a while ago tho'

if u want to make a small linux distro tho' take a look at featherlinux, it fits onto a 64mb memmory stick.

Thanks for ur reply 0pal_t0ad .
Can u tell me that command ?
What i am doing is , transferring that bzImage to boot directory and then running the command
mkinitrd initrd-2.6.5-1.358.img 2.6.5-1.358
which is creating the image file , Then i m writing these two enteries into the grub.conf.
After restarting (init 6), i m not getting after i chose my customized kernel and nothing appears .
But just now i have chosen init 5 and while starting it is displaying
INIT: Id"x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes ?????
Please suggest

Hi,

The best place to start is probably here: Linux From Scratch
http://lfs.linux-phreak.net/blfs/view/stable/index.html

It takes you through all of the steps to build a server from source etc with only the bits you need. It is not written for a specific distribution (at least from memory I don't think it is) so you should be able to use it.
