Exclamation compiling synaptic needs apt-pkg???

checking for apt-pkg/configuration.h... no
configure: error: You need the apt-pkg headers installed to compile synaptic.

[root@cook synaptic-0.55.3]# rpm -qa |grep apt
apt-0.5.15cnc6-1.1.fc3.fr what more do I need?

It sounds like you need apt-devel. Here's a much easier alternative -

guess I'll stick to yum install synaptic at this point as is mentioned on the url you gave me 10x also I updated yumex so there is hope (since they figured it out they need a new build) 0.31

You are an enigma my friend. In one thread you don't like apt/synaptic, and in another thread you're asking for help installing apt .

the thing is before the new build of yumex I had problems with yum and needed temporaly synaptic, but I can tell you yumex 0.31 is quite better than 0.30 it even have install repo button added
