Compaw Proliant 1500R - Install Kernel Panic (Cannot find root)

I'm trying to install fedora to a bunch of 4 Compaq Proliant 1500R servers.

These use hardware raid boards that should use the cpqarray.o driver module and are fitted with onboard scsi cards. (3 use old NCRx53 cards while the other has it's disks on a pci Initio 9100uw card).

When I boot up the first install cd and use the kernel option mem=160M the kernel boots but complains of a kernel panic :

VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown block (8,3)

Please append a correct "root=" boot option

Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS: Unable to mount root on unknown block (8,3)

Your help and ideas would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
