commandline startup

Hello.
I've installed the fedora 7 and at startup I only get the commandline saying "localhost login:"
I have tried several distros earlier and then Ive got a GUI with login.
What is wrong here?

Dear ,
It seem to be your default login is set to character mode or graphic mode failure.
edit the file /etc/inittab
check the line starting with id;
it must be like id:5:initdefault: (means default boot to init 5)
id:3:initdefault: is your character mode(init 3)
check your system . if Already set to 5, then your graphics has problem in loading Xwindow.

Thanks it worked....

Then comes my next question:
Is it possible to change beetween kde and gnome while running?

If not how can I chose beetween kde and gnome at startup?

you can choose KDE/Gnome while you loggin.
You can see a menu called as "session" along with reboot/shutdown/lofoof.
In that choose sesion and choose"kde/gnome" which one you wish.

Thanks again.
I found the menu and the session but there were no choice for the kde.
During the installation I choosed the "full packet" but I find very few programs in the desktop menues.
Among others there are no program to partition and format drives.
I've tried to use the packet manager but it hangs after couple of seconds while collecting info about packages.
What can I do to fix this.

"Packet Manager" I thick you mean package manager.
Try the following:
go to prompt:
run updatedb.(wait until it prompt down)
Go for a restart of you linux box.
now go to applications-->system settings--> Add/remove applications(or whatever you have in your box for package management.
be patience until all menu appears. select KDE and all package inside.
It will prompt you for the CD's
after installing go for log-off.
There you can find the KDE.
All the BEST
