cedega and FC5

So it looks like I've got some problems with cedega on FC5, and perhaps I'm not the only one. I've had a number of problems and I really don't know if I'm doing anything right so maybe I'll just discuss a few and maybe someone can help me get rid of at least one.

I've taken care of the copy-protection problem by changing the line in /etc/fstab for my CD drives and the configuration wizard actually reports that everything is okay. However, I need to disable SELinux completely just to run cedega. I'm not too comfortable with this; can someone explain how I can keep it enabled while allowing cedega to run?

Most game installers will run and seem to install the game no problem. However, once the procedure is finished, cedega will crash printing a message that is something like "wine error: starting debugger" to the terminal.

Now, after they've seemingly installed (ignoring this error) I try to run the game from the CD. In most cases I get the game's spash screen that remains there until I manually destroy the process.

So there's my main problems. Given that I've never run cedega in the past, these problems may not be related to FC5, but from what I've read, a lot of people are having trouble.

Any help, as always, is much appreciated!

BTW, kernel is updated, nvidia drivers are installed from livna and direct rendering is enabled.

Hi,

I tried to reproduce this in my enviroment and I downloaded Cedega time limited version for that.
I copied WoW from CDs to the /tmp and I installed it from there after Cedega setup.

I got a blank screen....and after a short investigation I did one change to the Fedora in order to remove copy-protection:

echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/exec-shield

and
  • added --opengl to the Cedega configuration (Command Line Option)
  • changed Desktop to the 1280 X 1024, so that it is the same than in OS

After these WoW started. Try if this help in your case.

I'm not sure how to correctly set the desktop, but using your other tips didn't seem to get me much further. Any other tips? How do you set the desktop? Thanks.

Try the command above and then run the configure test:
Code:
echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/exec-shield

Try adding the following line for your CD drive to /etc/fstab:
Code:
/dev/hdx /media/cdrom-hdd auto exec,defaults 0 1
where hdx is your CD drive. Also make sure that hdx has permissions set so that you can read it.

I get the same thing when I use that line in fstab, so I just mount the disc as root when I want to (try to) install something.

Could you be more specific? What sort of commands are you using, what error messages are you getting, and what is a "regaral" drive?
