Cant get volume buttons and digital card reader to work

I have a HP zd8115us that wont recognize any media card thats put in, the light blinks but nothing is mounted. Also how do I get the volume buttons to work? The vol up and down are lighted but the mute is not and wont turn on if i try to mute the computer. If you need any file print outs let me know.

Let's first start with the media card reader. Can you please post output of dmesg when you insert a card into the media reader. Not the entire dmesg log, just the new part when the card is inserted. Heres what it said when I pulled out the card:
tifm0 : demand removing card from socket 0:2

And when I put it back in:
tifm_core: MemoryStick card detected in socket 0:2

`fraid the page didnt help.

Have you tried using KwikDisk ? Start that up prior to inserting your card and see if it helps. It helps when I plug in a USB flash drive. Wasn't working on its own till I had that running in the sys tray
