Unhappy Cannot uninstall with add/remove package tool

There seems to be an odd problem with some packages on my Fedora 2 box. I installed the default system/packages and all, but now I've realised I don't need some. But when I untick them in the Add/Remove packages tool, some uninstall just fine, but there are others that cause the error message about the package not being installed and thus cannot proceed. But even with that, the package remains ticked. Unticking it just causes the same problem all over again. Any ideas around this? Will the ticks disappear if I uninstall with rpm from the command line?

yea..... the gui rpm software has this bad habit of not telling you what is going on.

I would definately resort to the command line.

1. If you are not sure whether a package is installed type rpm -q (package name)

** Note you do not need to put the full version in. for instance rpm -q mozilla popped out
mozilla-1.6-8 for me.

If you want to uninstall you logon as root (or use the su command) and type rpm -e (packagename)

The primary problem i suspect you are having is that some packages won't uninstall because they are required by other packages. If this is the case you will get a dependancy error.

If the GUI Add/Remove Programs doesn't reflect the changes you made, go to terminal and type updatedb (this will take a while)

If that doesn't work, i don't know. I always use the command line for rpm.
