cannot copy from usb external device

I connected a usb external ext3 formatted hard disk. Fedora immediately recognised it. I su and try to copy from Konqueror (which i opened as root) to my desktop. I get " xyz file does not exist" error. Copying is however possible via command line.
Why do i get this error?
Thanks
