can i choose specific minimal packages to install?

Hello all,
i just installed fedora core 4 from cds for the first time coming from slackware. I was wondering if there is a way to choose just bare minimal packages during install (without pkgs like yum, sendmail, python). I choose the minimal from the options and still ended up with a 650mb install. thanks.

This one was explained to me once, but I don't remember all of the details.

As I recall, you can reduce the size of the installation below the “minimal” installation by creating or modifying a kickstart configuration file and then doing a kickstart installation. The overall kickstart concept is explained in the RHEL4 System Administration Guide ( http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...ickstart2.html ).

How to create a kickstart configuration file is also explained in the RHEL4 SAG ( http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...art2-file.html ), but the easiest way to get started is to use the kickstart configuration file created during your minimal installation (see: /root/anaconda-ks.cfg).

You can then use the modified configuration file during the reinstallation in various ways (see: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...starthere.html ), but the easiest way is to rename it ks.cfg, copy it to a floppy, start the installation with “boot: linux ks=floppy” and supply the floppy when prompted (see: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...nginstall.html ).

During the installation, you will only be prompted for any information not supplied in the kickstart file, such as disk partitioning/formatting.
