Can Fedora Roll?

Hi,
I'm an Arch user...well, soon to change. Arch changed on me and I'm feeling "sold"...so, (again) an other distro is in order.
I used to have Fedora, but as I looked, and still do, for a rolling distro, hat was ended.
Now, in the mean time, can I use Fedora as a rolling release? Is version upgrade feasable without having to reinstall and (the real problem) reconfigure (for ages on end)?

Thanks for some insight.

Thor
(unless - but I dont have that much luck - it is an april fool joke)
(okay - it's possibly an april fools joke, but I have to see the site back up b4 I believe it)

You sound like you need Slackware. The experience is very similar to Arch.

Development is all done in a trunk called "-current" and you can install from or upgrade to -current whenever you like. When Slackware has a new release -current is frozen and snapshotted.

I won't comment on Fedora because I don't have anything nice to say about it.

Tnx zordrak,

If the xp is about the same, and the project does not "melt" into some other goo, that may be what I need.

Fedora comes out every 6 months. Isn't that up-to-date enough for you? Unlike some distros, you won't need a re-install: updating works fine.

The thing is, I started out with Fedora 8 - loved it, but there are no more updates for it...

No no, that's not the point at all...the six months (and the full re-install eventually) are what drove me away from Fedora :) way back when, sad though. I liked it, but a reinstall and reconfig took too much time out of running projects.
But...it seems (seems, dunnow yet) that I fell victim to the april fool's prank the community "elders" played on us...
Look at this thread https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116055 and judge for yourself.
That's why I love Arch...it is a rolling release, does not HAVE to be bleeding edge, but MUST be stable enough to be usable...

Fedora is not "rolling release" unless you use the "Rawhide" branch. In my experience, Rawhide is very much a "testing" branch and not recommended for everyday use like Arch.

With ya all the way snowpine...there IS the one reason I made the move to Arch. And happy for it.
I believe i've been the victim of the annual April Fool's joke the "elders" sprung on us, though. Sorry for the commotion. :)

Should I mark this as closed/solved? Can I ask a mod to remove it? Should I? Life is wonderfull...as long as there is Linux :D
