Can't install dhcpd on Fedora 12/13

Hello,

I am trying to install dhcpd on my Fedora 13 VM. I'm using VirtualBox and I installed using the i686 image. I did yum update and everything was fine. When I do yum install dhcpd , I get the following error.

Quote:
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
No package dhcpd available.
Nothing to do
I also tried yum clean to clear cache but that didn't help either. I installed Fedora 12 in a different VM and tried but with no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

that is installed already --by default
and is part of "NetworkManager" i think

why do you think that it needs to be installed ?

if the default Gnome look for it in the services

you might want to do some reading
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/De...S/ch-dhcp.html
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/..._Internet.html

I believe the server package is 'dhcp' ... 'dhclient' is the client side

cheers

1) Looking for dhcp : First command ? : $ rpm -qa | grep dhcp
... which shows nothing on a default install.

2) locate dhcp : Will show the dhcp files from the NetworkManager (Ref. John #2)

3) And : # yum search dhcp : Will show all 'dhcp' packages, and here you get the
correct package names. ( # 'yum install' cannot be used to guess a package.)
( Fedora has no dhcpd package.)
......

P.S. : And welcome to LQ. .. .. ..
...

just check that if th yum is working or not

if NO
then move the rhel file from mv /etc/yum.repos.d/rhel* to /
(if that file is there)

and

yum clean all
yum-updatesd
service yum-updatesd restart

yum list all
yum install dhcp*

if the primary.gz file is run the your yum is configured and related packages will be installed.

Thanks everyone for your help. I have it working. I was typing yum install dhcpd instead of yum install dhcp. Thank you again.
