Can't get windows to boot

Well, as many others, I have problems booting winxp from grub, but it works fine if I change the boot order in bios.

My Hardware:
Code:
A7N8X-Deluxe rev2, xp2500, 1gb ram, dvd-rom, dvd+-rw, ide hd 80gb, sata 36gb, sata 120gb and 9800pro
Fdisk -l :
Code:
Disk /dev/hda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
16 heads, 63 sectors/track, 155061 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1008 * 512 = 516096 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1   *           1       20318    10240240+  83  Linux
/dev/hda2           20319       22399     1048824   82  Linux swap
/dev/hda3           22400       42716    10239768   83  Linux

Disk /dev/hde: 37.0 GB, 37019566080 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4500 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hde1   *           1         319     2562336    7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hde2             320        4500    33583882+   f  W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hde5             320         448     1036161    7  HPFS/NTFS

/dev/hde7            1951        4500    20482843+   7  HPFS/NTFS

Disk /dev/hdg: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdg1   *           1         243     1951866    7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hdg2             244       14593   115266375    f  W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hdg5             244         371     1028128+   7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hdg6             372        1646    10241406    7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hdg7            1647       10767    73264401    7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hdg8           10768       14593    30732313+   7  HPFS/NTFS
and my grub.conf :
Code:
default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Fedora Core
	root (hd0,0)
	kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.6-1.435.2.3 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
	initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.6-1.435.2.3.img
title xp
	rootnoverify (hd1,0)
	chainloader +1
So when I select xp in grub, I only get,
Code:
xp
	rootnoverify (hd1,0)
	chainloader +1
and it hangs.

I tried the tips on fedorafaq, but it didn't work. So what to do? Install Lilo, or is there something I could do?

If anymore info is needed, please let me know.

Atle

HEre is what I suggest you try.

At GRUB graphical prompt. Switch to command line. Press c or p(if you have password protected grub).

Once at the command line, experiment with different commands.

print the grub.conf file it will help you, because the lines in grub.conf are nothing else than grub commands. Try to change them a little, and see what happens. the only command that isn't listed in grub.conf and comes after every set of commands is the boot command. so a simple XP boot in a grub command line would look like this:

rootnoverify (hd1,0)
chainloader +1
boot

Try to change the partitions in the rootnoverify command, holding in hand that hd1 means your second harddisk, and 0 is the first partition on that harddisk.

Good luck!

Peace!
