Boy, now I wonder

I've been thinking of installing Fedora Core 3. I have this book that came with a CD of Linux distros and one of them is Fedora. But using the 4 Live CD's of Mepis, Linspire, SuSe, and Mandrake I've had problems accessing my zip drive and my usb external drive, more specifically creating desktop icons for them and being able to click on the icon and open the drive through a GUI. But I read the post about Linux is acting like Windows and now I'm wondering about installing Fedora. I would think that since Red Hat is supposedly a good Linux distro that Fedora would be too. I know my local bookstore has an entire book about Fedora Core 3, something which most Linux distros don't have.

Also, do you think Fedora will successfully detect my internet connection? I have an ethernet card and a router and connect through a LAN. 3 out of the 4 Live CD's that I've tried did detect my internet connection. That's really vital here.

Fedora usually detects internet connections, so this will most likely happen for your installation, unless you are using some obscure hardware. As for Linux being like Windows, its not Windows, but some GUI environments can be made to mimic the behaviour of Windows.

Actually what I meant by "Linux being like Windows" was that the fellow who made the post entitled"Linux is like Windows" was complaining that his Linux installation was becoming unstable(like Win 95 or 98). Of course I use Windows 2000 and it's been rock solid. But when I read his post I started to wonder if Fedora crashed a lot(like Win 95 or 98) and was an unstable distribution.

Fedora is a "testing/unstable" distro. It is there to allow Red Hat to hand out their programs and have them stable enough to go back into the Enterprise editions. I have never had Fedora crash on me, and I'm sure many others will say the same.

Do you have a link to this article, I'd be interested to see what it says and how he got the whole distro to freeze/die.

I was referring to the post on this forum entitled "Linux is acting like Windoze".

i have had no problems with it,but i guess with linux i just dont deserve to have 3d drivers, and a cd drive, and sound.LOL but seriously,it has gone much smoother than SUSE i have before.i need to get my hardware updated and working, otherwise i have no issues with FC3.it looks good, and handles good, and plays good.and is not bloated with too much stuff,or too many options.i think some one needs to make a gaming linux.it will have the latest drivers from all major graphics card makers, and sound drivers for soundblaster and other makers, and the blasted cd drives will actually work!!and there wont be 15 steps to add a video driver.
who wants to make this??!!!???
