Blank system tray Icon after KDE Upgrade

Hello,

I just upgraded KDE on FC3 from 3.3 to 3.4.1 and now after I log in there is always a blank tray icon. It appears to be just a gray square. Clicking does nothing These kinds of things really annoy me

Anyway I am somewhat of a linux newbie... is there any process I can look for? startup program calls to check? I've tried exiting every application but still it remains.

Actually I just discovered the blank icon is the root keys icon. When I auth as root, the keys appear in the empty space (althought I can still the ALMOST transparent gray box around it as well as on some of my other tray icons??) Why would this be? How to go about resolving it?

I had this problem too and just managed to fix it. I run with a transparent panel - a blank grey sqaure for no good reason is irritating.

Having fixed it I can't now find the link that gave me the clue or post the output of the commands, but try this -

1] Fire up a terminal
2]
Code:
$ ps ax | grep pam | grep icon
3] Hopefully you'll get one process listed. You'll want the number at the start of that line, that's the PID, replace the PID in the next command with that number.
4]
Code:
$ kill -TERM PID

HTH.
