Beryl + FC6 + ATI

Hello everyone. Has anyone had any success installing Beryl on FC6 with an ATI video card. The card I'm using is ATI X1600 (see signature).

I've installed the ATI proprietary drivers and have gotten the 3D rendering working.

However, when I installed Beryl (yum install beryl-kde) nothing seems to happen. I launch Beryl using beryl-manager. All I get is the hour glass with a diamond thinking, and flicker of the screen. I don't see the splash screen for Beryl. I do have the Diamond on the bottom right corner of the screen. When I right click the diamond and change the settings, the screen flickers and that's it.

More info. The screen flickers and now the task bar disappears.
[HTML]
[root@localhost ~]# beryl-manager
[root@localhost ~]# **************************************************************
* Beryl system compatiblity check *
**************************************************************

Detected xserver : AIGLX

Checking Display :0.0 ...

Checking for XComposite extension : failed

No composite extension
beryl: No composite extensio[/HTML]

Has anyone installed Beryl using the above config (Beryl + FC6 + ATI)?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dion

What does 'yum installed | grep beryl' say?

Here's mine
Code:
[shrikant@shricore64 ~]$ yum list installed | grep beryl
beryl.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-3.fc6 installed
beryl-core.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-3.fc6 installed
beryl-gnome.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-3.fc6 installed
beryl-kde.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-3.fc6 installed
beryl-manager.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-2.fc6 installed
beryl-plugins.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-1.fc6 installed
beryl-settings.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-4.fc6 installed
beryl-settings-simple.x86_64 0.1.9999.1-4.fc6 installed
Edit : You can just do 'yum install beryl' and all get installed.

Have you got all the packages installed?

shrikant,

Are you running ati? I'm running a dual monitor setup.

Below is my xorg.conf I have Composite false because in previous threads it seemed like the ati driver doesn't support composite.

Here are the packages I have

beryl-settings-simple.i386 0.1.9999.1-4.fc6 installed

This is what I get when running beryl-manager
[HTML]
[root@localhost ~]# beryl-manager

[root@localhost ~]#
[/HTML]

Ok, I used yum extender and selected some files to update and install.

Now, I can run beryl-manager without any errors. If you right click the diamond I change my setting to force XGL because I'm using ATI.

When running Beryl this is what I get
[HTML]
[root@localhost ~]# beryl
**************************************************************
* Beryl system compatiblity check *
**************************************************************

Detected xserver : AIGLX

Checking Display :0.0 ...

Checking for XComposite extension : failed

No composite extension
beryl: No composite extension
[root@localhost ~]#
[/HTML]

So, i added composite to see what happens and I get white screens.

Why is it off? Try turning it on and also Composite.

ATI doesn't support AIGLX for my board version (X1600). That is why I have AIGLX off and Composite. I can only run XGL.

The latest version of beryl is giving everyone a white screen. I mean everyone. You'd have to revert back a few versions to get it to work.

ctt1wbw,
Are you running ATI? Where would I get an older version of Beryl, that is, if the older version works on an ATI x1600? Any insight if ATI is going to update there drivers?

Thanks,
Dion

Sure, check out this thread:

http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewt...hp?f=36&t=4046

He tells you how to do it.

And ATI released new drivers on 21 Feb. You might want to check them out. I haven't installed them yet.
