Audio CD's and Rhythmbox

Two problems.

First, I cannot play audio cd's with Fedora. I put in the cd, the audio cd player loads, but nothing happens. The slider bar moves, and the seconds in the cd counter advance, but nothing comes out of my speakers. All my games, and everything else work fine when it comes to audio, just not Audio CD's.

Second, what do I need to do to get Rythmbox setup to play MP3's?

1. Check mixer settings and see if CD volume is muted. Check the cable from soundcard to CD-Rom drive.

2. Dunno, never tried rythmbox, I tend to use xmms.

I don't have a cable going from my cd drive to my soundcard, never had a reason to use when, since Windows and Mandrake always worked without it. Is there another way or a setting?

And any help on Rhytmbox would be much appreciated.

To read the sound as a standard analog sine wave you need to have an output from the device to the receiver. When programs play sounds from the CD device without using the cable they are gathering the digital information across the ide channel (or scsi channel depending on the device type).
Many if not most media player applications are able to do this, you need to look at the settings to enable it.

There are no settings. :(

Is there a driver I would have to tweak?

Not being overly familiar with fedora, I can't say there is no utility or setting to do it system wide. But usually it is controlled by the software playing the music.

BTW, I read in another topic here, that to get Rhytmbox working I would have to uninstall it and then install the one with MP3 support.

Well I uninstaled it with the rpm -e command, and now the newer version won't install. Its says libstd++ or whatever its called isn't installed, however when I try to install that package off the cd it says that its already installed.

Rythmbox seems like a program that will work great for me but I gotta get it to work. :(

you might need an updated version of the libstd++ thing it's looking for. Try looking for it on some rpm sites.

I'll try the libstd thing later, but for now has anyone gotten Rhytmbox to play mp3's?
