Question Asus Xonar DG PCI snd-oxygen module installation

Hello people,

I've tried every recommendation on this great forum related to installing an Asus Xonar DG PCI snd-oxygen module on Fedora.
Nothing i can get to work with my skills.
If an expert knows how to get the driver to work and would like to access my PC remotely, let me know. I will be generous and make a purchase from an Amazon list or anything similar.

Below some extra info:
[user1@desk ~]$ uname -a
Linux desk 4.1.8-200.fc22.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Sep 22 12:13:21 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[user1@desk ~]$ lspci -v | grep audio
06:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio]
[user1@desk ~]$ lsmod | grep oxy
snd_oxygen 28672 0
snd_oxygen_lib 40960 1 snd_oxygen
snd_mpu401_uart 16384 1 snd_oxygen_lib
snd_pcm 118784 5 snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_oxygen_lib,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_controller
snd 77824 22 snd_oxygen,snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_pcm,snd_seq,snd_rawmidi,snd_oxygen_lib,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_seq_device

Thanks in advance.

You could run amixer in a terminal and examine the output, there may be something muted you haven't noticed.

Here is the output, all at 100%.
The sound mixer shows no devices either, that's the issue.

Code:
[user1@desk ~]$ amixer
Simple mixer control 'Master',0
  Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Playback 0 - 65536
  Mono:
Front Left: Playback 65536 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 65536 [100%] [on]
Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
  Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: Capture 0 - 65536
Front Left: Capture 65536 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Capture 65536 [100%] [on]

You may need to run it as root or with sudo.
Code:
lshw -C sound
Please paste output.

looks like you're going the right way.
seems the unclaimed device is the one i need.
How do i claim it, and have the system ignore the Nvidia HDMI one?

Code:
[user1@desk alsa-firmware]$ sudo lshw -C sound
[sudo] password for user1:

One more question. Is this a discrete card or embedded to the motherboard?

You should try using an alsa.conf and assign the Xonar as the default, then use a user based .asoundrc to configure the output. The alsa website has better details on this than I can elaborate.

it's a PCI discrete, ASUS Xonar DS PCI is the exact model.
I turned off the embedded motherboard one from the BIOS.

OK, I did some google on this and it appears your card may have an additional power connector which must be plugged in to make the card work. Is this the case with your card?

The problem is only Linux related, card works perfectly under Windows.
Any Fedora/RH or ubuntu based, LiveCD or hard install has this issue.

just followed the ALSA snd-oxygen instructions from their website. Doesn't work unfortunately.
How can i get the Asus sound device prioritized? Since sudo lshw -C sound returns that the audio controller is UNCLAIMED, but the Nvidia HDMI device is.
I would need to invert the two somewhere. any ideas?

Code:
[user1@desk alsa-driver]$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfe080000 irq 51
Why isn't the the below showing?
Code:
 *-multimedia UNCLAIMED
       description: Multimedia audio controller
       product: CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio]
       vendor: C-Media Electronics Inc
