Ascii Code


Hi
I have Windows Xp and FC 2 Linux installed in my PC. In windows if i press Alt+64 i get @ on the screen, but when i try this on my linux i cant get it.Why?? Also is there any similar way to simulate the key press in linux??

Maybe you can explain what you mean by "simulate the key press". You're already physically pressing Alt 64, so why isn't just pressing "@" adequate?

It'd help to know what you're trying to do here.

Linux does have a similar system. Hold down <Ctrl><Shift> and enter "u" followed by the character code. The other difference is that the code has to be in hex, so "@" is "40".

Run gucharmap to browse the Unicodes for your favourite characters, like <Ctrl><Shift>U263A for ☺.

The only catch is that it doesn't always work: in Fedora 6, it's vanished from OpenOffice ☹.
