Article on Fedora
I'm writing an installation guide for Fedora Core 5.
An un-official installation guide. http://www.tetexrpm.org/linux/fc5install.pdf That's a draft copy. I would love to get feedback. |
This looks good.
Only two comments: - /var2: Fedora includes /srv, in line with the FHS, which may be used as an alternate location (the FHS is a bit unclear). The default SELinux policy confines many of the standard services to their "normal" directories, e.g. Apache HTTPD to /var/www/, so that needs to be taken into account if you opt to use other directories for these services. - "Appendix I: Misteaks" ? It made me smile, but humour is often misinterpreted (particularly by non-native speakers). It very much depends on your audience... If it's intended for distribution, you may also want a copyright and license notice (to avoid issues). Please feel free to drop by the Documentation mailing list, or the IRC channel - we have a number of things going on with documentation and docs production which you may find interesting. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/ |
Thanks -
I altered the instructions to use /srv instead of /var2 and added instructions for dealing with SELinux with both MySQL and Apache. /srv also seems to be used by BitTorrent. |
Looks good to me too, with 2 points. First, you don't mention anything about installing PPC versions of FC on olde world PPC macs, but instead seem to deal deal just with the newer stuff. Not sure if you consider OW macs in scope or not. I have installed FC and Ubuntu on an OW mac just to say i did it. I actually learned a great deal about the linux boot process on it. The second point is that having draft on every page makes it annoying to read :) Very good otherwise, will help a newbie or convertee alot !

Fedora does not officially support old world macs, and I believe even YDL has as well. Installing on an old world mac is kind of a specialty issue, and my beloved Beige G3 died about a year ago. |
I removed the draft watermark.
I was using it before I started putting draft in the page footer, since it is in the draft footer the watermark isn't necessary. It should be out of draft state soon anyway (except I'm leaving for vacation on Friday) |
